Italian sausage links (about 1-1/2 pounds total) |

large onion, cut in half, sliced 1/8 inch thick |

large green bell pepper, cut into 1/4-inch strips |

large red bell pepper, cut into 1/4-inch strips |

- Preheat grill to medium heat. Grill sausages, covered, 15 minutes or until cooked through (180°F), turning often.
- Meanwhile, heat oil in 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion, bell peppers and Italian seasoning; cook 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender, stirring often. Stir in garlic; cook 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in barbecue sauce and salt. Keep warm until ready to serve.
- Serve sausages in buns; top evenly with onions and peppers.

Tailgating Tactics: Prepare onion and pepper topping. Refrigerate in airtight container until ready to transport. Place in cooler with sausages. At tailgating site, grill sausages as directed. Place onions and peppers in heavy, medium saucepan with an ovenproof handle. Place over medium heat on grill grid; cook, covered, 10 minutes or just until reheated, stirring occasionally. Assemble sandwiches as directed. |
